“This is Delhi’s fault… I am losing”: Byron Biswas alleges conspiracy over Jangipur strong room CCTV glitch

A major political controversy erupted in Murshidabad after repeated disruptions in CCTV cameras at a strong room in Jangipur, prompting Trinamool Congress candidate Byron Biswas to allege a “deep conspiracy” and administrative failure. The Sagardighi MLA rushed to Jangipur Polytechnic College early Saturday morning after reports that surveillance cameras had malfunctioned multiple times during the night, raising concerns over the security of stored election materials.

According to local accounts, both indoor and outdoor CCTV cameras reportedly stopped functioning intermittently, while lights in the strong room area were also switched off for extended periods. Upon arrival, Byron Biswas inspected the situation and questioned officials and central forces personnel on duty. Expressing strong dissatisfaction, he alleged that despite repeated alerts, the issue was not resolved promptly, triggering suspicions about the integrity of the process.

Escalating his attack, Byron termed the incident a “planned conspiracy” to defeat Trinamool candidates. He questioned why cameras and lights were repeatedly shut down late at night and claimed such actions were deliberate attempts to manipulate outcomes. “This is not a technical fault, this is Delhi’s fault,” he said, adding that even basic backup systems like generators should have prevented prolonged disruptions. He further made a striking political claim, stating, “I am losing, Zakir Sahib is losing in Jangipur, Nur Alam is losing in Samsherganj, and Farakka is also losing.”

The administration, however, rejected the allegations and attributed the disruption to a temporary power outage. Jangipur Sub-Divisional Officer Sudhir Kumar Reddy stated that the CCTV system operates on Wi-Fi and was affected when electricity supply was interrupted. He also clarified that the candidate had sought entry into the strong room around 2 AM, which could not be permitted under Election Commission guidelines. Despite the explanation, Byron maintained his stance, and as news spread, party workers gathered at the site, intensifying political tension around the incident.

The episode has added to the already charged electoral atmosphere in the region, with questions being raised over administrative neutrality and election security. Byron also indicated that a formal complaint may be filed with the Election Commission, while his repeated allegations of conspiracy have fueled further political speculation in Murshidabad.
